This mare has some of the most exquisite markings I've ever seen (and I've seen a lot of beautiful
horses...one of the perks of my job!)...and Lori, the owner has become
one of my friends ...another perk of my job!Anyway, "Miss D" is her name (the horse) and she lives with Lori. Miss D is a Quarter horse and I first saw her when she was just a three year old. I loved her markings, but she was still a bit gangly. A year later she was starting to look like painting material - a lovely mare. Lori calls me every spring when Miss D's foal is born and I go spend the whole day in the pasture with my camera and my lunch. One time when the babies took their naps (Lori has more than one mare) in the afternoon, I would lie down out in the grass with them and go to sleep also. I know, you're thinking, "What a tough job", aren't you ? But you didn't hear about the lake yet! Lori has a lake in the middle of the pasture and since I love to paint horses AND water, she has "volunteered" a couple of times to get very wet in the midst of trying to help me get some great "horses in the water" reference photos to work from. Then one afternoon, Miss D, on her own, just walked over to the lake and gave this gift to me...she just stood in the water, gazing off into space! A painting! Thanks Lori ...thanks Miss D.
